Totally Buggin’! Alicia Silverstone Returns for Clueless Sequel at Peacock

Time to dust off the yellow plaid and break out the flip phones, Clueless is officially making a comeback, and Alicia Silverstone is returning as the Cher Horowitz.

Yep, it’s not a reboot, not a prequel, but an actual sequel series that’s in development at Peacock. The news dropped via Variety on April 17, and Silverstone, now 48, hyped it up on Instagram like the queen she is, writing, “Totally buggin’… in the best way 💁‍♀️✨.” She even shared a classic still and GIF from the movie because nostalgia is fully in right now.

While plot details are still hush-hush, we do know it’s going to pick up where the original film left off. And even better, the people behind Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are handling the writing, with Dollface creator Jordan Weiss also attached. Plus, original Clueless director Amy Heckerling is on board as executive producer, alongside Alicia Silverstone herself and Robert Lawrence.

Just to clear the air: this isn’t the same project as that 2020 Peacock reboot attempt that focused on Dionne. That version had no Cher, which… yeah, what were they thinking?

The OG Clueless movie dropped in 1995 and became an instant pop culture staple, loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma. It starred Silverstone, Donald Faison, Brittany Murphy, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya. It even got a spinoff sitcom from 1996 to 1999 with Rachel Blanchard stepping in as Cher.

Silverstone’s been embracing her iconic role in recent years. She brought Cher back in Rakuten’s 2023 Super Bowl ad, rocked the yellow plaid on Lip Sync Battle back in 2018, and recreated one of Cher’s scenes with her son Bear on TikTok in 2021. So this sequel series? It feels like the natural next move.

Are you totally buggin’ or totally here for it? Drop your dream plotlines in the comments, should Cher be a fashion CEO, a mom, or still matchmaking everyone in Beverly Hills?
