KARRY G – Ukrainian DJ speaks about DJing and what motivates her to create new music.
T.H.E – How do you think over your images?
KARRY G – I usually keep track of trendy looks (yes, I have to). Then I combine them with what I feel to be most comfortable and relevant for me. Sometimes it just happens spontaneously, like, I pick up a top and I realize it goes perfectly with joggers. Other times, it’s quite tormenting. I may be fitting for hours…
But most of the time, when I’m picking out an outfit, my golden rule is comfort, style and creativity.
T.H.E – What role does appearance play in your field?
KARRY G – DJing is a great way to express yourself artistically. It’s about creating your unique music and your flow in the mix to fully showcase your style and vision.
Still, I don’t really think looks decide in the sphere. I mean, looks are important, but to a certain extent. In the first place, a person should be neat and well-groomed. Then he may look whatever she\he wants. Then if the visuals match the music, then magic happens. It’s very simple.
T.H.E – Each field has its own challenges and advantages, what are they in your field?
KARRY G – The connection with the audience is always priceless. That’s one of the significant advantages of Djing. You got the direct interaction with your audience.
You speak in tracks, not words. You tell your story. It’s a very fascinating way of communicating, I must say.
Then, collaborating with other artists, performing at festivals and events, connecting with industry professionals, meeting amazing people.
Challenges? In DJing, it’s all about the challenge lol. The competition, creative pressure, you name it
T.H.E – Apart from the most important feature – music, what else should a DJ be able to do?
KARRY G – Reading the Crowd is very important. Never lose that touch. Also, continuous learning, honing your skills. Exploring new things – this applies to music and technology as well. Being proactive on social media, yes. That’s the thing you can’t do without. And staying punctual and organized.
T.H.E – What motivates you to create new music?
KARRY G – It’s a desire for constant growth, moving forward and evolving. Also, working with great talented artists and producers, and musicians. Collaborating and creating something unique and fresh.
