Maurya Sevak talks to us about his new single, “Liar”, his journey as an artist and more.

Aditya – Hey Mr. Prodigy! Glad to have you for the interview. How’s 2021 been for you so far?

Maurya Sevak – 2021 has been very productive and exhilarating for me. I’ve been able to focus immensely on my production skills and really refine them. This is the year when I put out my debut release which was a Future Rave EP entitled The Rave. It consisted of 4 tracks with some strong Future Rave vibes in them.

Aditya – You have a bunch of tracks out at just a mere age of 16. When did you begin producing?

Maurya Sevak – I first started producing at the age of 14 in the year 2019. I would just grab my Mac, open up GarageBand and start developing some Melodies and beats in it. Then I travelled to Amsterdam in 2020 to get myself educated about music production and that’s when I decided that this has to be my career.

Aditya – Your latest track ‘Liar’ is an absolute banger! Could you share the creative process of the track?

Maurya Sevak – It all started with a melodic riff on a strong future rave sound from serum (a synthesiser). I was feeling really inspired by the new sound that David Guetta and MORTEN have pioneered and wanted to do something with it. Once I had the basic idea down, I added a vocal, some chords, a sick sub bass and a huge kick and that’s how the track came together.

Aditya – Who inspires you the most?

Maurya Sevak – David Guetta and Armin van Buuren inspire me the most. Their music takes me to an absolutely different world and it literally leaves butterflies in my stomach. It’s amazing what they are doing, Armin creating heart touching, emotional and uplifting trance music and David giving birth to brand new genres. I think that’s very next level. And it’s not just the music. Even the way they are as people, as humans, makes me idolize them.

Aditya – Which DAW do you use and why?

Maurya Sevak – I use Ableton Live as my main DAW as I have practiced with it thoroughly and know it off my fingertips. Everytime I have an idea in my head, it takes me about 15 seconds before it’s inside Ableton, ready to go. I also use FL studio, which is mostly for writing melodies as its piano roll is very easy to use, which means I can quickly construct more complex melodies.

Aditya – What are your favorite plugins?

Maurya Sevak – There’s actually quite a lot of plugins that I absolutely love, but at present it’s definitely Xfer Serum. It’s the synth that I have practiced sound design on massively and I can get pretty much every sound that I have in my head, into serum really fast.

Aditya – At the present, do you DJ commercially?

Maurya Sevak – I don’t DJ commercially at the moment, but I am definitely looking forward to getting booked for gigs in the next couple months. I really want to be there with the crowd at clubs and festivals and cherish the amazing moments with them.

Aditya – What is your studio set up like?

Maurya Sevak – My studio is literally just a plain white wall with a table, a set of speakers, a computer, and a midi controller along with an Ableton push. I guess that’s all the stuff I need to get some of the best music out there and into people’s ears.

Aditya – How long does it take for you to finish a track?

Maurya Sevak – It really depends. There are stages of completion for my tracks. It all starts with an idea that I have which could be a melody or a chord progression. Getting that into the DAW and getting the project ready to go which takes about 5 minutes. And then it’s all about building on top of it. Having 2 drops and an emotional and very catchy breakdown which takes me about 3-5 days to finish, and then I have the basic structure, which I polish thoroughly. And that takes another couple days. So all in all, it takes me about a Week and a half to two weeks to finish a track

Aditya – Lastly, what’s your favorite cuisine?

Maurya Sevak – Great question. Honestly anything as long as it tastes good. It’s the same as music. I can listen to anything as long as it pleases my ears.
