At just 24 years old, this duo of Parisians are very much a part of the growing deep house trend, but electro is not all they do, with a sound that features rock and folk influences, too.
This certainly comes through in “Be Mine”, which topped the world charts with more than 200 million streams, while its fun, sexy video racked up 100 million views: now that’s what you call a hit.
Having finished their debut India tour with “Heineken Experience presents पOWEर Music™” (conceptualised by Boss India), we caught up with the French duo, and spoke to them about their visit to India, plans for 2019 and more.
T.H.E – Hi guys! Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials. How excited were you for your India tour?
Ofenbach – We were very excited! It was our first tour in India and on the Asian continent so we couldn’t wait to meet our fans over there. We had a great time partying with them.
T.H.E – What did you hear about India, before you came here?
Ofenbach – We heard that they have amazing fans! And we could see that they were very excited to come, to see the shows.
T.H.E – How did ‘Ofenbach’ come about, and what is the meaning behind the name?
Ofenbach – It’s quite a short story actually, we were writing music together one day and on César’s keyboard there was a partition of the French composer and musician Jacques Offenbach, we immediately thought it was a cool name for our duo.
T.H.E – Your sound is deep house, but also has rock and folk influences. Why is that, and do we ever see you producing something that is different from these sounds?
Ofenbach – Rock music is a big part of our influences (The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin but also The Libertines and The Strokes) and we actually had a rock band back in high school. Yes, we could absolutely produce different kind of sounds in the near future, stay tuned!
T.H.E – You guys are quite young, what have been your biggest highlights so far?
Ofenbach – Traveling all around the world to see everyone partying on our music is a huge accomplishment to begin with, and it’s something that still amazes us. Also, we recently got to be part of the “50th most influent French people overseas” Vanity Fair’s list which was a real honour.
T.H.E – Which French artists have heavily inspired you?
Ofenbach – Among our biggest influences are the giant French touch artists like Daft Punk, Etienne de Crécy, Cassius, Justice but we also love artists like Petit Biscuit and Feder.
T.H.E – Lastly, what can you tell us about your plans for 2019?
Ofenbach – Our EP is coming this Spring with exciting collabs. We can’t wait to share our new tracks and keep playing gigs all over the world!
T.H.E – Thanks, guys!
