If you haven’t already heard, Romaan and Tony Cortez are making major waves on the scene as newly formed DJ and Production duo ‘The Lords’.
Both DJs are well-known in their respective careers but together they bring a combined total of 15 years experience and a unique innovative French touch to the London House scene. We caught up with them to discuss their love of DJ’ing.
T.H.E – How long have you both been DJ’ing for?
The Lords – We both have 15 years of experience in DJing.
T.H.E – What inspired you to take up DJ’ing?
The Lords – We have always been fascinated by the power that a DJ can have over the crowd and how he can control his emotions through different pieces of music.
T.H.E – Were you self-taught or did you take up lessons?
The Lords – Self-taught, definitely.
What is one of the highlights of your respective DJ careers?
The Lords – The first time we were playing TOGETHER in front of thousands of people on a big stage and feeling the vibes and feeding off the energy of everyone!
T.H.E – You’re both used to DJ’ing alone so how different is it working as a duo?
The Lords – We can bring and create much more together. Pooling our qualities on stage is a new challenge and it’s super exciting!
T.H.E – What tips and tricks do you have for budding DJ’s?
The Lords – Feel the crowd and they will tell you what to do! Don’t be scared to try things that make you different from others!
T.H.E – What’s the best set you have ever seen?
The Lords – Laidback Luke performing in front of a difficult crowd. That shows his experience and knowledge are huge!
T.H.E – What are your opinions about the DJ scene at the moment?
The Lords – The real House music is back and this is a real pleasure! It’s all about the groove and rhythm.
T.H.E – Where would you love to play at?
The Lords – Venue or event wise, Green valley Brazil, Coachella, Ibiza, Printworks London, Ultra Miami.
T.H.E – Do you often plan your sets or do you improvise on the night?
The Lords – Both, because there are too many songs that we love that we never want to forget any!
T.H.E – What has been the best event you have played for?
The Lords – The Closing HighQ Sessions party in London. It was unexpected and we had so much fun! We were both playing and at one point decided to start to play in B2B, was awesome.
T.H.E – What’s your favourite song to include in your sets?
The Lords – No song in particular but the closing song as to always give you Goosebumps!
T.H.E – How do you usually organise your music?
The Lords – It’s a mess lol but we do special playlists for different shows.
T.H.E – What do you love most about DJ’ing?
The Lords – The crowd reaction, this dose of adrenaline that you get when you press play on the first track of the show!
T.H.E – Where can we find you playing next?
The Lords – Not confirmed yet so we can’t tell you for now but it’s going to be in England for sure. Next step: Europe.
