Every person who has tasted success, will never stay away from their roots and will come back to it at some point in time. Here’s a classic example of this phenomenon as Alicai Harley returns to her native for the shooting of ‘Naah Done’ after 15 years!

As we watch the video, the first word that comes to your mind is – colourful! and it is the right word to use for a country like Jamaica and the cultural richness that it exudes. The video showcases some fun dance moves, some fun on the streets, all of which depicts the raw nature of the direction. She performs whimsical dance routines with locals in the streets of Port Antonio, and frolics playfully in the seas of Winnifred Beach.

“My mum moved from Jamaica to London when I was very young and once she was settled, I came to live with her. It’s been 15 years since that day, so to be able to go back to Jamaica and shoot this video, plus seeing my family and friends makes this song even more special for me.” She says, talking about the importance and the intimacy of getting back to her roots.

A melodic release tinged with Caribbean influences, the video for the fast-rising artist’s production pays homage to her birthplace of Kingston, which has sonically inspired the songwriter who now lives in South London. “I wanted to bring out all those old-school dancehall vibes to the song and for people to feel alive when they heard it”, said Alicai.

Alicai received huge support across BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra for her track ‘Gold’. It also got her support from the likes of Seani B, Target, Sian Anderson, Mistajam, Toddla T, David Rodigan, Trevor Nelson, and Charlie Sloth all spinning the release, alongside plays from Capital Xtra’s Ras Kwame, Tim Westwood and Manny Norte. her more recent release ‘Killa’ was playlisted by 1Xtra and Kiss Fresh and was BBC Introducing Record of the Week at BBC Radio 1.

She has been touring across the UK with BBC Introducing and also performed an amazing set at this year’s London Black Pride. She has also played at The Great Escape alongside the best in the industry.

We can surely look forward to more innovation in her work as she feels ever confident after the release of this video.
