“Whoomp” is the new single by German tech house producer Basti Grub who delivers a feel-good track that has summer anthem written all over it.
Basti Grub is a respected producer whose music can be found on record labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Innervisions, Diynamic and Hot Creations. His style can be found usually edging towards more melodic sounds, but this chunky release is most certainly tech house.
The track gives nostalgic respect to a hip hop classic by American hip hop duo Tag Team and their 1993 hit “Whoomp There It Is”. Those familiar with the original version will instantly recognise the lyrics from the chorus which made the track such a big hit back in the ‘90s.
Bringing it up-to-date for a modern dance floor, Basti Grub has used large sections of the vocal including the chorus, and made a whole new backing track with a heavy kick drum. The track has a raw and stripped back sound that allows the iconic vocals to shine.
