BBXO

BBXO is the innovative, creatively rich, collaborative project of Krisz Kreuzer & Musa Okwonga. Krisz had recently been a founding member of crossover Urban Blues outfit Brixtonboogie, when he met London-born poet Musa Okwonga in Berlin.

After working together on a number of projects, the two decided to form BBXO, with the aim of creating songs that explored urban socio-political issues of struggle, love and friendship in a powerful and distinctive way. The aim of the collaboration, is to portray a message and ideology, within a vessel of contemporary and accessible pop production. An altruistic lyrical content, with worldwide musical appeal.

After just a couple of sessions, the pair found themselves in distinct creative roles. Krisz’s background in blues and urban music, described by leading German media as “Blues for the 21st Century” and “the reincarnation of the blues”, meant that he fell into the instrumentation and production role. Musa however, brings the poignant social commentary that forms the topline. The duo are also incredibly passionate for performing live, and launched the project with a performance at the British Council Literature Festival in Berlin at the start of the year. They will be headlining Berlin’s first-ever festival for African Literature in April.

The culmination of the project is the new EP, set for release this Spring. The first single is the deliciously multi-faceted ‘Hard Road to Travel’, a pulsating debut single that showcases each members backgrounds and expertise in production and lyrical prowess. Creative sampling and a fearless approach to fusing styles, provide the foundation for Musa’s distinctive spoken-word vocal.
