Dirt Monkey and Shank Aaron reunite on their latest collaboration, “Kooks of Hazard,” which is burning rubber as the latest release on Bassrush Records.

Florida-based Dirt Monkey is a rare species of bass music producer who’s become renowned for bringing his signature filth to wonky dubstep, heady drum & bass, hard-hitting house music, and any other genre he feels like monkeying around with. The producer first made his debut on Bassrush in 2017 with the standout single “Peanut Butter Jelly Time,” which has amassed more than 660k streams to date. Shank Aaron is a longstanding staple from the Denver bass scene, known for his rail-riding dubstep sound. With multiple collaborations between the two spanning over a decade, the pair demonstrate their chemistry once more with the free-wheeling banger “Kooks of Hazard.”

Taking listeners on a rugged and grimy adventure, “Kooks Of Hazard” is a trip that you will be itching to relive. The introduction is ominous, dark, and dirty. Despite the minimal approach, it delivers in volumes, creating a sense of distinct uneasiness that balloons into white-knuckled anticipation. Discordant key stabs and ominous melodies give the track an icy yet intriguing appeal. Dirt Monkey and Shank Aaron put the pedal to the metal with oscillating low-end, womp-fueled leads, and cheeky samples. The sound design is sinister with monstrous growls and abrasive edges. The dubstep destroyer is built for festival systems and headbanging sessions with multiple pace-changing drops closely connected for ultimate impact. The echoing keys create a bewitching finale that’s creepy yet cool.

On the collab, Dirt Monkey says, “It’s named ‘Kooks of Hazard’ because we are both insanely good at skating and surfing (on Opposite Day)!”

Shank Aaron sheds light on their longstanding history, adding: “Being friends for more than 12 years and playing a couple winter dates with each other inspired us to get back in the studio as a pair and merge some new experimental sounds together for a perfect call-and-response song made specifically for live shows.”

Coming straight out of Florida, Dirt Monkey is an underground icon. With over a decade in the game, he’s become a mainstay in the scene known for his cutting-edge sound design and heavy-hitting bass. His catalog includes a long list of top-tier collaborations alongside artists like Opiuo, Kumarion, Virus Syndicate, Sully, and more. He has upcoming performances at HARD Summer Music Festival, Moonrise Festival, as well as headline shows at Red Rocks and additional venues around the country.
