Miley Cyrus just pulled the ultimate power move, debuting her raw new ballad More To Lose in front of a room that reportedly included some of her famous exes.
The surprise performance happened at an exclusive pre-Met Gala party in New York City on Saturday (May 3), where the Flowers hitmaker gave a small crowd a taste of her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful. And yes, she did it with style, grace, and the kind of emotional punch only Miley can deliver.
Before launching into the haunting track, Miley got real with the crowd. “I have a lot of people that I’ve known and loved for a very long time in this room. Even a couple of exes,” she said, keeping it casual but also letting everyone know this moment wasn’t just another performance. Then came the lyrics: “Oh, I’ll stay when the ecstasy is far away / And I pray that it’s comin’ ’round again… I knew someday, the one would have to choose / I thought we had more to lose.” A direct hit to the heart, especially if you were one of the former flames in the room.
While Miley didn’t name names, we all know her exes include Liam Hemsworth, Cody Simpson, Stella Maxwell, Nick Jonas, Kaitlynn Carter, and Tyler. The internet’s been buzzing trying to figure out who exactly was in the audience, but Miley wasn’t there for drama, she was there to showcase a vulnerable side of her next musical chapter.
More to Lose is part of her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful, which drops May 30. The album is being described as a “one-of-a-kind pop opera” and features 13 tracks with visuals for each. It’s also getting a major premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. So far, fans have already heard Prelude, End of the World, and the title track, Something Beautiful, which has Miley blending fashion, glam, and emotion with custom Mugler pieces and her signature edge.
This new era is being co-executive produced with Shawn Everett and picks up where her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation left off. Miley’s even described it as inspired by The Wall by Pink Floyd, but with more sparkle. “I want to be a human psychedelic for people,” she told Harper’s Bazaar, explaining that the album is meant to heal, challenge, and make people vibrate at a different level. She’s not trying to be your idol, she’s trying to shift your frequency.

With More To Lose, Miley Cyrus might have just given us the most intimate preview yet of her next big leap, and honestly, singing it in front of her exes? Icon behavior.
