Canadian producers and life-long friends zensei ゼンセ and Mr. Hilroy, came together today to release theirdreamy EP, ‘wonderyears pt 1’ on Monstercat.
Highlighting their emotions and reflections on life during the pandemic, the first track, “Begin Again” pulls listeners in with its atmospheric synths and samples before folding into a poignant guitar melody and an addictive slow-tempo beat. Coming-of-age tune, “Patience” offers a snapshot of the duo’s maturity over the years with its ambient beats, oozing an uplifting, chill vibe from start to finish. Monstercat fans will recognize zensei ゼンセ as the community-favourite, Dillon Wong, who also goes by his alias, Eminence.
Zensei ゼンセ shares, “We have been best friends since we met in audio school in 2009/2010. We always wanted to create something together since we’ve met. Just like everyone else during the pandemic, we really got into our feelings. It made us reflect on our lives and what was important. This EP is about the journey that brought us here.”
Mr. Hilroy describes the EP as, “Lush electronic lofi – Songs made by best friends.”
