Orjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma return to Dreamstate Records to unveil the next chapter of their recently minted nilsix project, with their follow-up single “The Void,” a dark and enthralling trance party-starter that has its sights set on the festival circuit.
An elite production duo with several decades of studio experience shared between its founders, Orjan Nilsen and Mark Sixma hit the ground running when they debuted their highly anticipated joint alias nilsix on the Dreamstate label back in March. They are now ready to keep the momentum going as they return with their sophomore issue, “The Void,” a thunderous instrumental, which packs the power to shatter the four walls of reality. Opening with its rattling synth lead, growling rave stabs, and pummeling percussion, the track soon descends into an ethereal, spacefaring breakdown, before relaunching with an explosive tech trance conclusion carrying enough rocket fuel to transport crowds into the furthest stretches of the cosmos.
Orjan Nilsen sheds light on how the track came to fruition, saying, “We started working on ‘The Void’ in Mark’s parents’ house, because Mark’s studio wasn’t ready yet and his dad has a great studio setup at home. It was the second time I visited Mark in Breda, and after seeing some of the places where Tiësto started his career and having a few beers at the city square, we got to work in the studio. After ‘Anhedonia,’ we wanted to make something a bit darker that would work wonders on festivals and that’s how ‘The Void’ was born.”
nilsix features the production talents of a duo who are both already deeply revered from their expansive solo careers. Orjan Nilsen is swiftly approaching his 20th year in the trance scene—affectionately known as the ’Norwegian Trance Viking,’ amongst his dedicated fanbase—with four artist albums already under his belt, along with regular appearances at renowned clubs and festivals across every corner of the globe.
Similarly accomplished, Mark Sixma also boasts a formidable discography, which runs the gamut from pulse-raising trance to timeless mainstage bangers, including collabs alongside W&W, KSHMR, and Armin van Buuren, to name a few. The Dutch phenom is infamous for knocking himself down from the top of the Beatport Trance charts, when he claimed the #1 and #2 spots simultaneously.
The nilsix project officially launched earlier this year after months of simmering anticipation, with their inaugural single “Anhedonia” first teased on Armin van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance’ during the program’s ADE special last October. Earning a warm welcome from the trance community, “Anhedonia” was enthusiastically championed by scene heavyweights from the likes of Markus Schulz, Super8 & Tab, Nifra, Chris Burke, and many more.
With the release of their second single on the Dreamstate label slated to do some serious damage on the dancefloor in the imminent future, nilsix is gearing up for their debut performance on US soil once they touch down in Los Angeles for an appearance at the annual Dreamstate SoCal gathering in November.
