After ‘Cruel’ became the most talked about track last month, Snakehips and Zayn release their highly-anticipated music video. With Zayn playing the lead role, the video perfectly captures the contrast between cruel and kind, light and dark and everything in between.
The camera endlessly and seamlessly tracks forwards, pushing through a series of set ups on a single forward motion. The camera never deviates but manages to pass from environment to environment – through a series of abstract, neon-lit rooms, all based within Snakehips’ world; a cinematic, neon infused metropolis.
The artistic video reflects the nature of the song’s lyrics. Underpinned by Snakehips’ trademark summery, glitchy new-school RnB production, Zayn’s soulful vocals make this a summer anthem. The track comes to a climax with rousing choruses, whilst his smooth voice is left to stand alone over a solitary piano melody in the emotive intro and outro.
It’s the latest high-profile collaborative single from Snakehips, whose most recent EP featured Dr Dreprotégé Anderson.Paak and popular Canadian rapper/singer Tory Lanez. Top 5 single ‘All My Friends’featured Chance The Rapper and Tinashe, and led to a live performance on famous US TV showJimmy Kimmel Live. To top this off, the duo will be headlining KOKO on Thursday 6th October, tickets are available for this, here.
