“Fear the Sound” is a new 10-track album release that fuses synthwave and techno to create dance floor tracks that also have home listening appeal.
The release is by USUK which is a duo consisting of solo artists Chad Stegall and Mark EG. Each of the guys are well-respected individuals. Chad Stegall is a skilled composer with a love of synths and Mark EG is a veteran techno DJ whose career spans back to the ‘90s.
Mark EG has released tracks on respected techno record labels such as D.A.V.E. The Drummer’s Hydraulix, Planet Rhythm and Yin Yang. Chad Stegall’s resume includes progressive house and melodic techno tracks on record labels such as Udopia Recordings and Dear Deer.
All of the tracks are suitable for DJ use, as they have driving percussion and are suitable for a dance floor, but the atmosphere and powerful melodies of the synth lines add an extra dimension well-suited to a home environment.
After a trippy intro with thought-provoking vocals, the punch of the kick drum starts to build and the album begins to take flight.
Some of the stand out tracks include the rippling synths and eerie vocals of “Deep in the Nightmare”. “Gather Yourself” is another one of the stand out cuts with the rough edges of its distorted synths and epic chord progression of the bassline.
On a whole, the album is a seamless selection that showcases USUK’s ability to have a timeless and distinctive sound.
