Urgent Recall: Organic Pumpkin Seeds May Be Contaminated With Salmonella

If you’re a fan of healthy snacking, especially pumpkin seeds, you’ll want to double-check your latest grocery haul after this recall.

Advantage Health Matters, a health-focused food company based in North York, Ontario, has issued a recall of its 8-ounce packs of Organic Jumbo Pumpkin Seeds over concerns they could be contaminated with salmonella. The recall is serious, and if you live in New York, New Jersey, or Virginia and shop at local health stores, or even order your snacks online, you’ll want to check your pantry ASAP.

The affected product was sold in clear plastic packaging with lot number L250320200 printed on the back and an expiration date of 05/02/2027 stamped on the side. Even though no illnesses have been reported so far, the company isn’t taking any chances. They’ve suspended production while they investigate the issue, which reportedly started with one of their international suppliers.

Salmonella is no joke. It can lead to fever, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), and, in rare cases, it can even result in serious complications like infected arteries or arthritis, especially dangerous for young kids, older adults, or anyone with a weak immune system.

While this might be a bummer for fans of healthy, crunchy snacks, the company is doing the right thing by pulling the product before it causes harm. Advantage Health Matters is urging anyone who bought these seeds to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. If you have questions, they’ve provided a direct email: [email protected].

Recalls like this are a reminder that even the most “natural” or organic foods aren’t immune to issues. It’s always smart to stay informed, check batch numbers, and never ignore recall warnings. So if you’ve been munching on pumpkin seeds lately, go double-check your stash, it’s better to miss out on a snack than risk getting sick.
