Tough night for the Milwaukee Bucks – and an even tougher one for Damian Lillard – the All-Star guard left Game 4 of the Bucks’ playoff series against the Indiana Pacers with what looks like a serious lower leg injury. Early signs point to a possible Achilles tendon injury, according to reports, and honestly, it doesn’t sound good.
Lillard went down in the first quarter after tapping the ball away during a scramble for an offensive rebound. He immediately grabbed his left leg and stayed on the ground for the next defensive possession. When play finally stopped, Lillard had to be helped off the court, unable to put any weight on his left leg.
Milwaukee ruled him out for the rest of the game almost immediately.
After the game, Bucks coach Doc Rivers didn’t sugarcoat it. “Just being honest, it’s not very promising,” he said.
Damian Lillard will undergo an MRI today to confirm the injury damage, but the vibe around the team feels grim.
This comes after Lillard already battled through major issues this season. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season dealing with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right leg – and only just returned to action in Game 2 against Indiana. Now, just as he was trying to find his rhythm, he’s hit with another brutal setback.
In the two games he played this series before tonight, Lillard wasn’t his usual self, averaging just 10.5 points and 6 assists while shooting a rough 24% from the field. In Game 4, he missed both of his shots before the injury knocked him out early.
Milwaukee now trails 3-1 in the series, and losing Lillard could pretty much slam the door on their playoff hopes.
Doc Rivers summed it up best: “I felt bad for him. The guy tried to come back for his team. I just felt bad for him.”
It’s a heartbreaking twist for one of the NBA’s most fearless players. All eyes are now on Monday’s MRI results – but for now, it’s a brutal wait for Bucks fans and anyone who respects Lillard’s fight.
