Ruben Amorim Admits Time Is Running Out at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim knows the clock is already ticking at Manchester United – and he’s not hiding it.

After yet another Premier League defeat, this time a dispiriting 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, the under-fire manager made a blunt admission: there’s no honeymoon period at Old Trafford.

In Manchester United, you don’t have the time. I will not have the time. We have to get it right fast,” Amorim told reporters post-match, sounding more like a man fighting for survival than laying long-term foundations.

The defeat – another in a growing line – saw United stumble yet again in a season rapidly spiraling into chaos. Nottingham Forest struck early, and despite dominating possession and territory in the second half, United’s blunt attack once again came up short.

Amorim pointed to the game’s early moments as pivotal: “We start the game suffering a goal and put Nottingham in the place they want to be – defending with lots of men – then they have really fast players to make transitions.”

While criticism mounted online for young winger Alejandro Garnacho, Amorim refused to throw his player under the bus. “He is making everything. He’s trying,” the manager said. “Sometimes he doesn’t make the best choice, but you cannot point to any player today.

In a desperate late-game move that drew both ridicule and praise, Amorim sent on defender Harry Maguire as an emergency striker. “When the opponent is protecting the box, you need aerial threat. Maguire is probably the best in the team at attacking set pieces,” he explained.

While United fans are split – some sympathize with Amorim’s honesty and limited tools, others are demanding results – the message from the manager is crystal clear: he knows the walls are closing in.

There’s no patience. No transition period. No time. Ruben Amorim’s project at Manchester United may have only just begun, but in his own words, “we have to get it right fast.” And in the Premier League pressure cooker, fast might already be too slow.
