Star Wars: Battlefront III isn’t happening, at least not under Electronic Arts.
According to reports, EA has shifted its strategy and will no longer pursue a third installment in the popular Battlefront series. This change follows more internal layoffs and a company-wide decision to focus only on its own original IPs like Battlefield, The Sims, Apex Legends, and Skate.
YouTuber Battlefront Updates shared on X (formerly Twitter) that EA has pulled the plug on any plans for Star Wars: Battlefront III.
An internal email cited by IGN reportedly confirms the layoffs and EA’s narrowed focus moving forward. It also reveals that outside of wrapping up the third game in the Star Wars Jedi series, EA’s involvement with Star Wars is essentially over.
This marks a clear turning point for the franchise. EA’s exclusive rights to develop Star Wars games expired in 2023, opening the door for other studios to take a shot at the galaxy far, far away. While that gives fans some hope, there’s no official word on another studio picking up the Battlefront mantle just yet.
That said, the community hasn’t given up. Just last week, on May 24th, fans rallied for Resurgence Day, a grassroots effort to show that Star Wars: Battlefront II is still alive and kicking. The results were impressive: over 18,600 players jumped onto the game on Steam, setting a new all-time peak for the platform. But that’s just a piece of the picture. Across PlayStation, Xbox, the EA App, and the Epic Games Store, the game reportedly hit a staggering 315,000 players.
This surge in interest came hot on the heels of the finale of Andor, the hit Disney+ show that’s renewed attention on all things Star Wars. Fans clearly want more from the Battlefront series, and they’re showing up in huge numbers to prove it.
Unfortunately, despite the fan support and renewed popularity, EA doesn’t seem interested in revisiting the Battlefront series. With the company doubling down on its core franchises, it’s clear they’re moving away from licensed properties like Star Wars.
For now, the future of Star Wars: Battlefront III remains up in the air. But with EA’s exclusive deal no longer in place, the possibility is still alive, just not with the studio that brought us the last two games. If another developer steps in, we could eventually see a revival of the beloved shooter series. Until then, the Battlefront community is keeping the dream alive, one match at a time.
