Why GTA 6 Might Skip Trailer 2 – And It’s Genius

Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij has just said what a lot of fans are already thinking, Grand Theft Auto VI doesn’t need another trailer.

The first teaser dropped back in December 2023, and since then, Rockstar has gone pretty much radio silent. But according to Vermeij, who served as a technical director at Rockstar North from 1995 to 2009, that’s exactly how it should be.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Vermeij shared his opinion on Rockstar’s current strategy. “If it was my call, I wouldn’t release any additional trailers,” he said. “There is more than enough hype around ‘VI’ and the element of surprise is going to make the release only bigger as an event.” Honestly, he might be right, GTA VI already feels like the most anticipated game of the decade, and they’ve barely shown us anything.

While there’s still no official release date locked in, Rockstar has said GTA VI will drop sometime in Fall 2025. And the publisher, Take-Two Interactive, seems fully on board with keeping fans in suspense. Last month, CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg that the decision to hold back the release date was intentional. “The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property,” he said. “We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement.”

Zelnick isn’t wrong. The buzz surrounding GTA VI is on another level, and fans are dissecting every frame of the first trailer like it’s a Marvel movie. But what’s wild is how much interest the game keeps generating without any real updates. No gameplay reveal, no follow-up trailers, no dev diary, and still, it dominates gaming headlines. That’s Rockstar for you.

So if you’re wondering when we’ll see more of Vice City or get a glimpse of the game’s two new protagonists again, don’t hold your breath. Rockstar might be playing the long game here, banking on mystery to make launch day feel like an epic cultural moment. And honestly? It’s working.
