Our artist of the month this month are two DJs who have made a name for themselves in trance scene over the last decade. Releasing music on labels like Black Hole, Armada, Vandit and their very own FSOE Recordings. Yes that’s right, our artists of the month are the very, very talented Aly & Fila.
Aly and Fadi have known each other since they went to kindergarten in their home country of Egypt. Seeking inspiration from the sounds of Chicane and Paul van Dyk, two artists they listened to a lot when they were just starting out, they built their very own small studio and started producing and DJing in the year 1999.
After creating a name for themselves in their homeland, they felt it was time to let the world know about their talent. They signed a deal with German company Euphonic Records in 2002, and their debut track on the label, “Eye of Horus” was supported by leading trance names such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk. It even went on to touch the number 4 position on the Dutch Dance Charts.
In the past decade, they’ve been one of the only artists to have played on Armin’s A State of Trance 300,350,400,450,500,550,600 and 650 shows- thus playing alongside Armin on his annual tours for 8 years in a row.
Their peak ranking on DJ Mag’s annual poll was 19 in the year 2012, and they’ve been in the top 30 since 2008.
The duo also have a record label ‘Future Sound of Egypt’ that shares its name with their radio show. They have also signed on emerging Egyptian artists like Brave and Mohamed Ragab on their label.
The duo have also released three studio albums, the first one being ‘Rising Sun’, followed by ‘Quiet Storm’ and ‘The Other Shore’ earlier this year.
To celebrate the 200th episode of their popular radio show, the duo announced a massive event in their home country of Egypt, with artists like John O’Callaghan and Roger Shah playing alongside them at the world famous outdoor club ‘Echo Temple’ based near the Sinai mountain.
Aly unfortunately suffered a ear injury while on tour and currently only Fadi goes on tour, as Aly has been advised to completely avoid loud music.
The duo have also done numerous remixes for artists like Armin, Solarstone, Max Graham and Gareth Emery.
