Doctor Dru is a Hamburg based house producer who makes deep beats on labels like Balsaal and Exploited as well as OFF.
Here he is back on regular home Jeudi, with a tidy and to-the-point two track EP that once again lays out his impeccable credentials. Up first, The Grain is a striking bit of work with a wide open horizon dominated by poignant and post apocalyptic synth stabs. They are truly captivating and epic in the way they set such a sombre mood as various little melodies grow all around them. It’s a standout bit of work followed by The Pattern, which is a slow burning, ever growing track run through with a rippling lead synth line. As that subtly undulates up and down the scale, various off kilter chords add a late night wooziness and ensure this one is another track that will won dance floors. Doctor Dru has already proved himself to be up there with the best of them, and this excellent EP confirms that once more.
