Review: Aly & Fila – The Other Shore

0

Egyptian duo Aly & Fila have expanded their record label with ‘Future Sound of Egypt Excelsior’, dominated stages across the globe with the FSOE world tour and dropped smash record after smash record.

Their third studio album, ‘The Other Shore’ is the magnum opus of artists who have already reached the other side of their craft. No longer out to prove anything, Aly & Fila are free to create exactly the kind of album that they want. The most striking feature of this record is the sheer musicality of every track. Borrowing instrumentation from different cultures, genres, and even eras, they’ve blended it all in a style that no one could emulate.

“The Other Shore” is everything you would expect from artists of their calibre. Overflowing with creativity, it simply resonates with their signature sound from beginning to end. From stellar tracks such as “Nubia” with Ferry Tayle opening your mind and taking you on a journey far from this world to “Running” with SkyPatrol and Sue McLaren, “The Other Shore” never ceases to lose its momentum, and once again reminds us why Aly & Fila continue to be one of the most dominant forces in the trance scene today.

The album kicks off to the soothing sound of “In My Mind” featuring Karim Youssef & May Hassan, a breathtaking opening track booming with emotion. As they set the stage for what’s to come with electrifying tracks such as “White Wave”, Aly & Fila begin to show us just how in-depth and brilliant this album really is. Following with “Nubia” featuring Ferry Tayle, the album reaches one of its numerous high points as the duo introduce some of the album’s more melodic content. As the climax continues to build with tracks such as “Never Let Me Go” featuring Seri and “Underwater”, “The Other Shore” begins to take shape as the music continuously evolves, growing more intense because of magnificent and at the same time fiery vocals by Aruna. The album concludes with “Shine” featuring Roxanne Emery, a sensational grand finale for a sensational album.

Although there are many gems to be found on this album, it becomes increasingly difficult to narrow down the albums’ best tracks, as each track sets the stage for something even more impressive than the one before it. From brilliant collaborative pieces such as “Universelab” with Stoneface & Terminal to spell-binding vocal tunes such as “For All Time” with Jaren, “The Other Shore” undoubtedly lives up to its hype – and may prove to be one of the duo’s finest releases yet. Also, “Universelab”, “For All Time” and “Eye 2 Eye” raise the energy on this album, yet still retain the classic melodic feel that Aly & Fila are loved for.

Very few producers would have the confidence to strip their tracks down to the bare essentials, leaving nothing left to hide. To pull this off, what’s left has to be almost inhumanly perfect – breath for breath, note for note. With music known for bringing people from all walks of life together, Aly & Fila have certainly demonstrated this concept on “The Other Shore”. Whether you love progressive, melodic, uplifting or spiritual music; this album has covered it all.
