The last time he was here, we had some amazing gigs across India and we couldn’t wait to experience it again. So, Submerge are bringing him back for a 3 city tour!

This time, it gets bigger and better as Submerge is proud to announce the CYCLES tour with Max Graham.

The Cycles Tour brings an experience with a wealthy knowledge for how music fits together to create a diverse and captivating flow, inspired by Max Graham’s radio show which is a two hour journey with 10k listeners a week spread over iTunes, Soundcloud and Syndication worldwide and has grown immensely in it’s 150+ episodes. Trending worldwide with a strong weekly Social media following, it only seemed fitting that India be exposed to this experience.

When the CYCLES Tour was announced, needless to say that we felt we should speak to Max and learn a bit more about the entire CYCLES concept as we were sure that our audience would appreciate a bit more insight about Max and his CYCLES tour. Find out what the man had to say!

T.H.E – Hey Max! Firstly, thank you for taking the time out for this interview. How excited are you for your India tour?

Max Graham – :) I love India so pretty excited.

T.H.E – Your compilations and radio shows are titled“CYCLES”. How did this title come about? We would love to know the thinking behind it terming them“CYCLES”!

Max Graham – Well it made sense to me as everything in life goes in cycles, from the sun rising and falling to the seasons. Music, Fashion etc are all cyclical and what’s old is new again. Also my own career, I’ve found myself floating around through difference influences yet always coming back to a specific sound that long time listeners can recognize.

T.H.E – The term “CYCLES” is often described as a yearly snapshot of your own musical journey. How would you describe it in a bit more detail? Is it perhaps, a compilation of the tracks which you have enjoyed listening to the most and played the most in your sets for that particular year?

Max Graham – The term isn’t described as a snapshot, that’s simply the way we describe the CD we put out once a year. It’s a compilation of what’s moving me at that moment and what you can expect to hear from me going forward. I guess the radio show is quite the same but more of a weekly snapshot.

T.H.E – Congratulations on reaching more than 200 episodes of “CYCLES” radio. For those who do not follow it regularly, it’s a 2 hour radio show filled with Techno, tech house and progressive. We would love to know what goes into the preparation of your radio show. And how do you ensure that every episode offers that much bit different to keep listeners hooked on to it?

Max Graham – Oh it’s a lot of work, i spend all week looking for new music, searching for those bombs no one has heard before. I edit almost every track to fit what i want and that takes a couple of hours. Mixing it, doing the voiceovers etc takes another couple of hours. it’s a full days work each Monday. I don’t really do anything specific to “keep listeners hooked” as I think that’s a recipe for disaster, i just play what i love, the way i love it and over time i will lose some listeners and gain others but i can only do what comes naturally to me.

T.H.E – What thoughts did you have when you first started your radio show?

Max Graham – Well it was a far better way to connect with listeners than just putting out a record every three months. I wanted to interact with people in real time and discuss the music we all love plus as i sometimes make music of different genres it could be confusing to people to only go to a show expecting a dj set based on a record i made six months before. The show allows people to really get an idea from where i am right this moment and a good idea of what they will hear that specific weekend.

T.H.E – December 2014 saw the release of the 6th edition of“CYCLES” compilation. How pleased were you with the success?

Max Graham – Very Happy, beats media gave it a 10/10 and the fan reaction was very strong so i honestly couldn’t be happier that what came out of me musically and was a true reflection of my taste and evolution was so well received.

T.H.E – You have many a times played “Open to Close” sets in your successful DJ career. It’s certainly no small feat. What goes into preparing such sets? How do you manage to keep the audience hooked on from the start, right till the end?

Max Graham – I think you have to pace yourself, patience is a very strong trait in any good DJ playing for a long period of time. You have to tell a story and build the night properly, if i jumped in and banged away with hits people would lose interest after two hours. As for preparation it’s really just knowing your records very well and understand what fits what time of the night.

T.H.E – You’ve toured India before and are back here again (thankfully!). What do you love about this country and the dance music fans here?

Max Graham – The fans are very passionate, the women are beautiful (My girlfriend is Indian) i love the culture and of course THE FOOD.

T.H.E – “CYCLES” tour is something which has become a bit of a trademark for you. We are sure there will be something different about this edition of “CYCLES”tour as is the case everytime. What can fans in India expect from this one?

Max Graham – haha well we have hot new visuals for this one and of course lots of new music :)

T.H.E – If we will ask every Max Graham fan to name their top 5 tracks by you, “Sun in the winter” featuring Neev Kennedy would arguably be mentioned by most. How did that collaboration come about? What makes it so good to listen to, even after so many years, a real timeless melody?

Max Graham – It’s a collaboration between a few people, I heard the original vocal and fell in love instantly.

T.H.E – According to you, which 5 artists are doing really well at the moment in today’s global dance music scene?

Max Graham – I’m honestly too busy focusing on the work i have to do to know what’s up but i am seeing a lot of energy head towards people like Alex Di Stefano and now Tim Penner is gaining momentum which is amazing to see as he’s so talented.

T.H.E – Apart from the tour, can we perhaps see you doing a little bit of sightseeing as well?

Max Graham – Not this time as i’m passing through quite fast.

T.H.E – Thanks a ton Max. Looking forward to seeing you live and we hope that you have a superb time here in India, plus that we will get to see you again.

Max Graham – India has always been amazing to me, i love it so much and i can’t wait to see you guys this weekend.
