Anna Kendrick fans, get excited – because she’s officially ready to step back into the world of The Accountant.
The 39-year-old actress, who played Dana Cummings in the 2016 hit, didn’t appear in the recently released sequel, The Accountant 2. But according to director Gavin O’Connor, that’s about to change. In fact, Anna’s already given the green light to come back for The Accountant 3.
Speaking to The New York Times, lead star Ben Affleck, who plays autistic accountant and secret vigilante Christian Wolff, confirmed he’s just waiting for the script. “That’s a question I want to ask Bill [Dubuque, writer] and Gavin. I’m just waiting for another great script,” Ben said.
O’Connor was quick to tease what’s in the works – and it definitely involves Anna. “One thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love he deserves,” he said.
Apparently, Anna’s not just being considered – she’s already on board. O’Connor revealed, “She and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.” Ben’s reaction? “Beautiful. Then it’s really down to you guys to mess it up.”
Why Anna Wasn’t in The Accountant 2
Gavin O’Connor made it clear in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly that Anna’s character was never intended to appear in the second movie. The focus this time? Christian’s emotional reconnection with his brother Braxton (played by Jon Bernthal).
“We wanted to do a 48 Hours or Midnight Run kind of buddy picture,” O’Connor explained. “I mean, how do I bring Anna into the second and then ignore her? The whole point was exploring the brothers. That was always the intention.”
What to Expect from The Accountant 3
Now, with the brother storyline completed, The Accountant 3 is poised to bring back the romance thread – and Dana Cummings along with it.
“The third movie… is for [Chris’] quest for love and connection to be consummated,” O’Connor confirmed. He didn’t reveal many details about the plot yet, but one thing’s clear: Anna Kendrick will likely be at the heart of Christian Wolff’s next (and maybe final?) chapter.
Looks like after all the bullets, brainy puzzles, and brutal takedowns, Christian might finally get his happy ending. And honestly? It’s about time.
