Josh Duhamel is getting real about why ditching city life for an off-grid cabin in Minnesota has been the best move for his family.
The 52-year-old actor, known for roles in “Transformers” and “All My Children,” has two sons , 11-year-old Axl with ex-wife Fergie, and 15-month-old Shepherd with his current wife Audra Mari , and he says the simple life is exactly what they need.
Talking to Fox News Digital, Josh explained how a life forty miles from the nearest town is teaching his boys skills they’d never pick up in Los Angeles. After a tree fell during the winter, Josh had Axl helping him cut it up and haul it away. Sure, Axl wasn’t thrilled about it, but Josh says he’ll be grateful later when he knows how to fend for himself. He’s already looking forward to teaching little Shepherd the same way as he grows up.
It’s not just chores either , Josh says the boys get to actually be kids out there, making friends, jet skiing, tubing, and just living a real childhood. Far from the chaos of Hollywood, Josh says their off-grid setup means the kids have to learn independence and basic survival , stuff you can’t teach when you live in a big city with everything at your fingertips.
And Josh himself is thriving, too. “Something happens as soon as I get out here, my blood pressure drops,” he admitted. Life now is about making sure they have enough groceries, keeping the septic tank from freezing, and handling problems without picking up the phone to call for help. Like when the septic froze recently , instead of panicking, Josh and Audra just figured it out themselves.
He’s clear: they’re not roughing it to the extreme, but it’s enough to make a huge difference. And for Josh, that’s the whole point. He believes these small, tough lessons are exactly what will shape his kids into capable, grounded adults , a pretty rare thing in today’s world.
