Marvel just dropped the first full trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and fans are freaking out – for good reason, the trailer delivers our first real look at Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer, and she’s not here for small talk. Floating ominously above Earth, she drops the chilling line: “Your planet is now marked for death.” Casual.
The footage wastes no time throwing us into the chaos. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, immediately takes the threat personally. With Earth spiraling into panic, he publicly admits he doesn’t know if he can keep anyone safe – but promises to try. Cue the superhero tension, dramatic music, and yes, stretchy limb action.
This version of Marvel’s First Family lives in a stylized, retro-futuristic 1960s world, which adds a vibrant and trippy flair to everything. Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm (The Thing) all get spotlight moments in the trailer – but the focus, for now, is firmly on the arrival of Galactus and his Herald.
And yes, fans do get to see Julia Garner fully transformed as the Silver Surfer. The look? Sleek, eerie, and powerful. Her entrance is matched with a massive tease at the end of the trailer: Galactus’ feet crashing into the city. It’s the most we’ve seen of the cosmic devourer yet in the MCU, and the scale looks properly terrifying.
Meanwhile, there’s also a personal twist. Reed and Sue are expecting a child, and that subplot is already giving emotional stakes to a planet-threatening plotline. Johnny, of course, is excited to become an uncle, because why not toss in some levity before the apocalypse?
The official synopsis lays it all out: “Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
Directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), this version of Fantastic Four is shaping up to be Marvel’s most stylized and emotionally layered take on the franchise yet. And with the unexpected casting of Garner – who’s more known for intense dramas like Ozark – as the Silver Surfer, it’s clear Marvel is flipping expectations on their head.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025. Buckle up. This one looks massive.
