While some fans of the “Come and Get It” singer have expressed skepticism over her seemingly rushed relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, others think the couple is written in the stars. Yet when it comes to the star-studded pair, no one is more certain of their soulmate status than Selena Gomez herself.

According to the “I Said I Love You First” songstress while speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, her partner is the person who makes her feel the most secure and protected. “Without getting into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone that respects you,” Gomez revealed on the podcast back in 2024. She continued, saying, “And I think it’s really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in. But I’d have to say overall it’s the safest that I feel, and it’s been really lovely, and I’ve only grown through it, so it’s awesome.”
As for Benny Blanco? The music producer has admitted to “manifesting” Gomez from the very start. In fact, he feels like he lucked out so much with Gomez, that he’s terrified she’s gonna wake up one day and realize she’s made a terrible mistake.
While sitting down with Interview Magazine, Blanco expressed his feelings. He recalled, “The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.’”
Yet as the couple reveals, it didn’t all happen instantly. In fact, it took nearly a decade for their dynamic to switch from professional co-workers to the loves of each other’s lives.

It wasn’t until 2023, that the pair started to really hang out as more than just work colleagues. But everything changed on one particular night, when the two were playing cards together. That’s when Benny Blanco leaned in to kiss Selena Gomez for the very first time. And the rest is history!

But according to the celebs, their first kiss wasn’t just any old smooch. As the couple reveals while speaking on the Table Manners Podcast, their first lip locking experience was so overwhelming, that it caused Gomez to break out in a face rash!
“I just looked at her, and I said, ‘I got to kiss this girl,’” Blanco revealed. “And I kissed her right away and her heart started beating so quickly, and she started getting a rash on her face, and she was so nervous.”

Gomez explained her response, saying, “I hadn’t liked anyone in a very long time. So some kisses are for fun, and then when you feel something behind a kiss, it’s completely different.” She continued, adding, “And I’d been alone for about five years, with the exception of a few s****y dates here and there, but never felt that way, and I was a little embarrassed.” She continued, adding, “He asked, ‘Are you OK?’ And I was like, ‘No, no, I’m fine.’ I didn’t want to say, ‘I like you, I really like you.’”
But Blanco couldn’t help but take the chance to joke about the whole situation. When the podcast host asked if the pop singer was having an “allergic” reaction to Blanco, he said of Gomez’s unforgettable response to their first kiss, “She was, yeah. I was so disgusting and repulsive,”
Now, the pair are showing off their romance to the world with joint albums, prom dates, and kitsch-tastic Taco Bell proposals. And as for their wedding date? According to Gomez, the couple is “taking it slow” right now, simply basking in the joy of their engagement at the moment.
