I.GOT.U shares his favourite venue to perform, reflects back on 2022 & more, in this exclusive interview.
Aditya – Hello, we’re glad to have you for this interview. How was the last year for you?
I.GOT.U – Hi music lovers! To be honest, 2022 was very busy in terms of business. Together with my friend DNF, we run an EDM label – FRKNTN, which required a special commitment after the health crisis. I know that the time spent on it will pay off in 2023 and I will be able to spoil my listeners with many new bangers.
Aditya – You’ve crowned Top 10 DJs in Poland for 3 consecutive years, how do you feel about that?
I.GOT.U – It feels great to be on top of that kind of charts. That means that a lot of people know me and my music – which is the most important thing for me.
Aditya – You’ve played over 1000 gigs, that’s quite a number. Which is your favourite venue to perform and why?
I.GOT.U – Yeah! Crazy number, right? I think my favourite venue is Holidays Club in Orchowo (Poland), which is a place to go for every club music lover in my homeland.
I wish I could cite more venues and events I’ve had the opportunity to play at, but I’m more of a producer than a DJ and focus more on being in the studio. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to play at events that will change my thinking!
Aditya – Who are your influences and why?
I.GOT.U – Lifestyle – Michael Jordan, had a big impact on my life. His mentality was key to my development as a person in my youth. My musical influencers are Diplo, Leon Bolier (BLR) and D-Block & S-Te-Fan. As you can see, it’s a huge variety of genres, and I love it to my taste.
Aditya – You have over 10 years of experience in the industry, could you tell us how different was it back then?
I.GOT.U – Actually, I don’t see much differences. Maybe, back in 2000-2010 electronic music had more “freedom” and now it’s more about numbers (streams/revenues). If it comes to clubbing – we’re in the dead spot. Thankfully, people still love festivals!
Aditya – You’ve amassed millions of views online, how do you feel about that?
I.GOT.U – As I said before, I’m a man born in the 90’s and I care more about the art, but these numbers say one thing – I’m doing a good job every year.
Aditya – You’re seen with a few football tee’s, who’s your favorite player?
I.GOT.U – My favourite player is Thierry Henry and a team, love of my life – Arsenal! I’m also a football shirt collector with over 300 pieces in my wardrobe – most of them are, of course – Arsenal FC.
Aditya – Of your vast discography, which is the track that stands out for you and why?
I.GOT.U – Two of them are very important for me – Sirius (Save The Planet) and Fuego. Sirius, because it’s a cover of a classic tune by The John Parsons Project. That track was an official anthem of Chicago Bulls, one of my favourite teams and memories when I was a kid. And Fuego, because I’ve never put that many emotions in one track.
Aditya – Any tips for the beginners?
I.GOT.U – BE YOURSELF and TRY TO BE UNIQUE! It’s simple as that. Being a “copy-paste” producer will result in a large audience, but real fans will be a handful. People prefer artists who stand out with something special. Although it’s not that easy, it’s worth it to find something different in yourself that others will love.
Aditya – Lastly, do you think vinyl will make a comeback?
I.GOT.U – Personally – I’d love to! I’m a big fan of “black plates”, so it’s clear that having my own album on vinyl is on my “to do” list for the future!
