T.H.E Interview – Alicia Madison

Madison

One would never expect that songstress Alicia Madison, was once shy and never able to sing in front of a live audience. Now, with releases out on Mixmash Records, Black Hole Recordings, Brawla, Moda Top, Xtravaganza, and working with top artists such as Laidback Luke, Moska, Merk & Kremont, Sied van Riel, Starkillers, Promise Land, Revero & Jonathan Pitch, confidence is no longer an issue.

Recently, Alicia collaborated with Laidback Luke and Will Sparks on ‘Promiscuous’, which was released on Armada Music. We caught up with the songstress and spoke to her about this single, plus her thoughts on how 2016 has been for her among plenty other topics! :)

Valarie – Hello Alicia Madison. It’s a pleasure to welcome you. Thanks for taking time out for this interview.

Alicia – No problem! I’m happy to speak with you.

Valarie – For those that are not familiar with your work, you’ve released quite a few songs over the past few years now but you started out behind the scenes. What has that been like?

Alicia – I started out as an intern at Warner Brother Records working for Tommy Page who was the A&R at the time. I made it known that I was an aspiring singer/songwriter and eventually was pulled into his office to sing for him (no pressure, right?) and my soon to be manager, Gary Salzman. After that, I was signed immediately to BIG Management, and officially started my career in this industry.

Valarie – Starting out as an intern for Warner Brothers Records. What changed for you, that you become an artist?

Alicia – I was just a singer when I was interning at WBR. I had little experience writing and didn’t know what being a real artist entailed. This industry makes you understand REAL quick what it wants and what it needs. I quickly learned what I needed to do to gain credibility as an artist and as a songwriter. I wrote songs every single day after being signed to my management. It became a lifestyle that I fell in love with. Also, being in crappy relationships always helps a writer’s creativity. Cue the “thumbs up” emoji.

Valarie – Your newest release is “Promiscuous” with Laidback Luke & Will Sparks out now on Armada music. How did that song come about?

Alicia – “Promiscuous” was written to a track that Luke presented me a while back. Luke then collaborated with Will Sparks and what came out was this incredible festival banger. After searching for the right label for the song, we ended up hearing that Armada wanted to sign it. They are an insanely good label. We knew it was the best home for the song.

Valarie – You have worked with GLOWINTHEDARK, Kaj Melsen, Sied Van Riel, Denny Berland, Bangers Royale & many others. Is there anyone you would want to collaborate with?

Alicia – Oh my, there are a ton of people I’d like to collaborate with. I would like to work with The Chainsmokers, Flume, and ZHU to name a few.

Valarie – Reflecting back on 2016, what would you say have been the biggest highlights?

Alicia – 2016 was a great year for me. A lot of personal and career growth happened this year. Honestly, “Promiscuous” is one of the biggest highlights of my year. This song was a long project in the making and was highly anticipated. The support and the feedback have been overwhelmingly awesome. It has opened so many doors for me, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

Valarie – What do you have in store for 2017? Any upcoming projects, tour, new album?

Alicia – I will definitely be performing in 2017 and I can guarantee that I will have a bunch of collaborations and possibly solo releases as well. I’m not going anywhere.

Valarie – Your top 5 tracks of the moment.

Alicia – Favorite current and kind of oldie but goodie songs at moment would probably be,

“Care” by R3hab

“Never Be Like You’ by Flume

“Never Forget You” by Zara Larsson

“Automatic” by ZHU

“Pretend We Never Met” by The Felix

Valarie – Thanks again Alicia Madison for taking time out to talk to us here at T.H.E- Music Essentials. It’s been an absolute pleasure! :)

Alicia – THANK YOU to you guys for being so damn awesome. The pleasure is all mine. Next time, interview me over a martini! =)
