Rising Dutch artist Donn Camps touches down, as he unleashed ‘Domino’ on global promo & with it – a heavy hitting & mainstage ready weapon.
Hailing from Arnhem in the Netherlands, for Donn Camps, it was clear he was destined for a path into music. From picking up a pair of drumsticks in his early youth & in turn mastering the art, to moving onto DJ’ing & beyond – fate, along with his own drive & focus played its hand.
We caught up with Donn Camps and spoke to him about ‘Domino’, his musical background and which two artists he would like to collaborate with.
T.H.E – Hey Donn, welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials!
Donn Camps – Hello, Thanks for having me.
T.H.E – Your new track ‘Domino’ is perfect for the main stage. Is this something that you actively tried to achieve, in the production process?
Donn Camps – Yes, I want to reach a large audience and make tracks that are very suitable for the main stage! But I produce what I love to produce and I really like the harder styles!
T.H.E – Let’s talk about musical background. Ever since you were young, you were driven towards music as indicated by your mastery of the drums at a tender age. Were there moments when you also experimented with other career options?
Donn Camps – Yes, I was 6 years old when I got my first pair of drumsticks and the drum kit, at that age, I was already very curious about DJ’ing.
At the age of 10, I got my first DJ set and that’s where it all started for me. A couple of years later, I was mixing and spinning in all kinds of “party” locations and bars.
Some years after that, I decided to take my career to the next level and started producing and another couple of years later, I had my first releases.
T.H.E – Here’s a question we’re sure you’ve been asked before. What do you prefer, DJ’ing or music production – and why?
Donn Camps – DJ’ing for sure! I am an entertainer, I love to get on stage, I produce music to bring my own sound to music lovers, party people, clubbers and fans.
I can’t do it without the stage! And I prefer to play a lot of my own creations as well.
T.H.E – Can we expect to see you branch out in the future, maybe experiment with other genres?
Donn Camps – Yes, I am working on a lot of new tracks in the last couple of months in different kind of genres.
I think nowadays, it’s not as much about the genre but about the music. When the vibe is good, people will dance and sing-a-long to it.
T.H.E – What are three pieces of advice that an aspiring DJ should keep in mind, whilst learning the art?
Donn Camps –
- Always play what you love to play!
- Never lose your faith in yourself! Set goals!
- Never quit to follow your dreams just because people tell you is not good enough!
T.H.E – What does the rest of 2018 look like for Donn Camps, in terms of gigs and releases?
Donn Camps – There is a release planned on 24 September signed to US label Peak Hour Music. We are releasing more tracks this year, I might be starting a label aswell, will be sure let you know about that. I intend to do a lot of gig’s aswell in the the next couple of months, keep an eye on my insta ;).
T.H.E – And lastly, which two artists would you love to collaborate with?
Donn Camps – There are a lot of artists whom I would love to collaborate with whom I would love to collaborate with.
I love Don Diablo because he is amazing, great DJ, entertainer, marketer and brand ambassador of his own Hexagon brand, he give me a lot of inspiration aswell.
Plus David Guetta! I love all his catchy, sing-a-long pop/dance songs!
T.H.E – Thanks, Donn, can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the future!
Donn Camps – Thanks for having me, keep in touch!
