French artists Arno Cost & Norman Doray teamed up to deliver their vibrant new production ‘Together’, fusing melodic tones to create an 80’s influenced house floor filler.
We caught up with them and spoke to them about ‘Together’, their plans for 2019 and the reunion of Swedish House Mafia.
T.H.E – Hey guys! Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials. How has 2019 started off for you?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Pretty good thanks! We have been silent for quite a while now, so it was time to start 2019 with a new release called “Together”
T.H.E – You guys have always been at the forefront of French house music. What is it about ‘house music’ that appeals to you?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Not sure about this “title”. We would say that artists such as Daft Punk, Justice, Cassius, Laurent Garnier have been the ones representing House music from France. We are just 2 other artists doing what we like and from France, indeed!
House music is something we discovered when we were teenagers.
T.H.E – How has house music evolved in the last 10 years, since you have been in the industry, and which artists do you feel deserve a mention for driving its popularity?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – It all depends on what we are talking about here. If we talk about the whole electronic music culture in general, the last 10 years have been amazing, this genre has reached radio and gotten popular. If we talk about “House Music” itself, there has been a down period when more popular genres like EDM took on. But since 2 or 3 years, house music is back in the light and that’s great!
T.H.E – Your new collaboration – Together, is influenced by the sounds of the ’80s. How was it working on the track and how did crowds react to it when you played it in your DJ sets?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – We wanted to do a new collaboration after our last one called “Rising love’ in 2015. As usual, when we decide to work together on a song, it’s because we have something to say at this moment, and we want to make something original. When we started, those 80’s chords were the main focus and we simply built around it. It was natural like every time we work together.
T.H.E – Having supported Swedish House Mafia at Pacha Ibiza, what was your reaction when you guys found out that they have reunited, at ULTRA Miami 2018?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Congrats to them, they have always been nice to us. But we actually didn’t know about that as we don’t follow much what’s is happening in that scene. What is important to us, is make our music the best way as we can and share it with our fans. It’s our main focus
T.H.E – When it comes to France, what can you tell us about the house music scene? Which artists we should keep an eye out for?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Electronic music, in general, has always been present in France. We guess since the early ’90s, House music was played in some small sweaty places in Paris, to become a giant trend nowadays. It’s everywhere on radios, in clubs, festivals. There is history too now, with artists like Daft Punk and the whole French touch era
French artists like Roman Kouder, Mokoa or Gaba are doing really good at the moment, and it’s pure quality music!
T.H.E – Lastly, what are your plans for 2019?
Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Ready to release more music this year, have fun and touring again to meet our fans all over the world! Spread the word. ☺
