After the success of their ‘Why Don’t You’ EP on Spearhead Records, Vienna based drum & bass duo, RoyGreen & Protone returned with their first release of the year on the prestigious CIA Deepkut, packed full of breakbeat, jungle influenced rollers.

To celebrate the success of the EP, the duo share a 10 best run-down with us – touching on tracks from the likes of Calibre, Daft Punk, Makai and many more.

Roygreen:

1. Calibre – Mr. Right On

Probably one of my favourite Calibre tunes of all time. Took me many moons to finally hold the vinyl in my hands but it was worth the wait, flipside is breath-taking as well. Has to be said that Calibre as for so many other artists has been incredibly influential for our musical output.

2. Wu Tang Clan – Da Mystery of Chessboxin’

Definitely one of the main tunes that introduced me properly to Hip-Hop and everything around it. Never gets old.

3. George Arvanitas Trio – Summertime

This whole album (Porgy And Bess) is absolutely stunning and I have been listening to it so many times I have lost count. I would say that because of this record I started to develop my love for Jazz.

4. Daft Punk – Around The World

Listening to the addictive rhythms in this song as well as the simpleyet effective music video, this milestone in music history had a big impact on my understanding of music as well.

5. Makai – Beneath The Mask

Probably one of the first Drum & Bass tunes I have ever heard. A friend of mine showed it to me and it was a mind blowing new experience, leading me into the realm of the music we make.

Protone:

1. War – Slippin’ into Darkness

A track my parents used to listen to in the car when I was a little kid. This is very deep and I still get goosebumps when I hear it.

2. Al Green – Love and Happiness

Also a childhood memory. Soulful vibes and Al Green’s voice are a perfect match.

3. Reflection Eternal – Good Mourning

I’m a huge fan of all the Rawkus stuff that came out, but the Reflection Eternal Album is special to me. When I started making music, I always wanted to sound like Hitek on the beats.

4. John Coltrane – My Favorite Things

When I first heard Coltrane I was irritated by his sound. After a while listening to his work I became addicted to his tonal expressions.

5. Calibre – Think Again

Calibre is definitely one of my favorite artists in drum and bass. Never heard a bad track by this genius and I miss tracks like “Think Again” nowadays.
