Peter Criss, the iconic drummer of KISS, is making a massive comeback with his first solo album in nearly two decades. After releasing jazz and pop albums in the past, Criss is going full throttle into hard rock for this new project. The album, slated for release later this year, promises to be a “kick-ass” hard rock experience, a departure from his previous musical ventures.
Criss, 79, spilled the news during an appearance on the ‘KissFAQ’ fan podcast, revealing his excitement about the upcoming album. He said, “I have my new rock and roll album to share with you KISS Army guys coming out in the fall, and I really hope you like it, man. And I want to say, God bless each and every one of you.” The album is produced by none other than Mötley Crüe’s producer Barry Pointer, who has worked with some of rock’s biggest names.
The album will feature some serious rock talent, including Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5, legendary bassist Billy Sheehan, and Paul Shaffer, former musical director for David Letterman. With these heavy hitters joining him in the studio, it’s clear that Peter Criss is bringing his A-game to this project. KISS historian Julian Gill, who has been following Criss’s career for years, said, “Peter’s drum sound is absolutely massive, and his vocals are powerful.” Gill also praised Pointer’s production, calling it stunning.
This album will serve as a follow-up to Criss’s 2007 release, One For All, and marks his return to his hard rock roots. Criss originally founded KISS in 1973, and although he left the band in 1980, he reunited with the original members in 1996 before departing again in 2004. Despite KISS calling it quits with their final concert at Madison Square Garden in 2023, the band will perform an “unmasked” show in Las Vegas this November as part of the Kiss Army Storms Vegas convention.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the new album, which will be released between September and November. This could be the perfect time for KISS fans to hear some new music from one of the founding members, and with the powerhouse team behind it, the album is sure to be a hit.
