SAAG vs NIBC – Sleepless In Zimbabwe [Available June 26]

For the latest slice of brilliance in the fabled Trunkfunk story, welcome back label boss NIBC, who this time joins forces with SAAG for what’s a thoroughly engaging EP throughout.

Entitled Sleepless in Zimbabwe, it’s clearly indebted to Africa’s positive demeanour – and is a release that shines brighter than a Zimbabwean summer.

Getting us underway is the gorgeous title track. A melodic slice of veritable brilliance, it elevates the listener to warm and stuffy place that’s full of colourful mosaics and endless possibility. A unique listen, it’s the sort of track that naturally lends itself to the remix domain. And so it is that the first of these comes at us from Man Power, the northern English producer currently making great strides thanks to his work at Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondent label. His remix is a pitched-back and more melodic effort than the original, and one that flirts with various genres from the off. Much like the original, it’s imbued with rich musical fantasies aplenty – and is the sort of track that reminds us of the producer’s knack for creating quality cuts.

Casino Times is a duo who revels in such unusual sounds, and though their remix is a far cry from the original, it’s a worthy addition to the package nonetheless. The Strip Down version does exactly as its title professes, before the ‘Drum Track’ offers up another canny tool. Fans of the original will also enjoy the Radio Edit, the last track on a quite fantastic EP.

Stay tuned for the previews.
