Zara Larsson has her eyes set on a full-blown collaboration with Tate McRae – and not just a song, but a whole album.
The Swedish pop sensation, known for hits like Lush Life and Never Forget You, shared her excitement about the idea backstage at Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium on June 15.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Zara said, “I would love to collaborate with Tate. What if we like do this [Summertime Ball] on tour and make a joint album? I really would. I think she’s so talented.”
Zara is currently supporting Tate on her Miss Possessive Tour across North and South America, and the experience seems to be creatively inspiring for her. With Tate McRae’s high-energy pop bangers like Greedy leading the charge, it’s no surprise Zara’s feeling motivated to get into the dance studio herself.
“I love her music,” Zara said. “I love the fact it’s so danceable, and it’s something that inspires me a lot. So I’m definitely going to be getting into the dance studio and rehearsing for the tour.”
Both Zara and Tate first gained fame through talent shows. Zara won Sweden’s Talang (the local Got Talent version) in 2008, while Tate made waves on So You Think You Can Dance. Their parallel journeys into the spotlight only strengthen the case for a solid duo project.
Zara also shared her thoughts on potentially being a judge on a talent show. While she’s open to the idea, she admitted she’d probably struggle with giving harsh critiques. “Never say never,” she said. “Maybe I would be a judge on a show like that. I think that would be quite fun. But I like to be nice. I don’t want to tell anyone they’re not good. So, I would just be the positive one, probably.”
The 27-year-old singer also offered advice to up-and-coming artists, emphasizing the importance of social media in today’s music landscape.
“If you have the dreams, you can do it,” she said. “Especially now, because there are so many platforms where you could express your music, or your style, or your opinions, and who you are. So really use those platforms.”
She added, “That’s like my label’s number one marketing thing; they’re like, ‘Post a TikTok.’ And I’m like, ‘OK! I guess.’ So, you’ve just got to put yourself out there and don’t be shy. And to really surround yourself with people who care about you – I would say that’s very important.”
With Zara Larsson and Tate McRae vibing on the same creative wavelength and sharing stages this summer, a joint album doesn’t sound far-fetched. Pop fans, stay tuned.
