In an effort to do away with social distancing and mask mandates, the Belgian federal government launched its Covid Safe Ticket (CST).
Just last month, the government cracked down and forced Tomorrowland to cancel its 2021 flagship event (https://themusicessentials.com/news/breaking-tomorrowland-cancelled-2021/ ) but is now making efforts to take steps to safely bring back live entertainment and sporting events.
This domestic health pass is aimed to be used for major entertainment and sports events of over 1,500 people to certify that all attendees have been fully vaccinated or have had a negative Covid-19 test in the last 48-hours.
This will be done by utilizing QR codes and the passes will be applicable for outdoor events starting August 13 and indoor events starting September 1.
The government however has not mandated the use of the app, but if a promoter or event chooses not to use the app, mask mandates and social distancing measures will need to be enforced.
Explaining how the CST works, Barbara Van Den Haute, of Digital Flanders, says: “The CST works in the same way as the EU Digital Covid Certificate. Both certificates use QR codes that appear on your smartphone via the CovidSafeBE app. The CST will colour red if your negative PCR test is older than 48 hours if you are checked entering an event, while at the airport the same code will colour green allowing you to travel.”
Explaining the process for attendees to use the app, the official website explained, “Download the official CovidSafeBE app on your mobile device. Select your language and answer 3 questions to find out which COVID certificates are available to you. Then you can use your digital ID to sign in and download and save your certificates.”
