Tiger Woods’ Ex-Caddie Exposes What It Was Really Like Working With Him

Tiger Woods’ former caddie Steve Williams is opening up about what it was really like working alongside one of golf’s greatest legends.

In a new interview with Bunkered magazine, Williams described Woods as “fantastic” but also “demanding,” with high expectations that pushed everyone around him.

Williams spent 12 years with Woods, racking up 64 PGA Tour wins together before their split in 2011. Reflecting on those years, he shared how Tiger’s intense drive for success was no joke. “He demanded success and he set high standards,” Williams said. “Like, when I went to work for him, I considered myself to be reasonably fit. But his fitness was on a whole other level.”

Williams explained that Tiger believed physical strength sharpened the mind. “He used to say, ‘The fitter you are, the better your mind works.’ So it was really a case of rolling up the sleeves and delivering.”

But it wasn’t all grind and pressure. Williams said Tiger was actually very different off the course – fun, generous, and down-to-earth. “He’s got a little bit of a temper and he’s not afraid to show that, but equally, he was extraordinarily generous to me and my family. He was a fantastic boss to work for.”

Tiger’s obsession with winning was clear to everyone around him. According to Williams, even a top-10 finish didn’t cut it for Woods. “For Tiger, winning was the only thing that made it a good week. You know, for a lot of players, finishing inside the top-10 or making the cut is a decent result. For Tiger, if you didn’t win, you lost.”

Despite the pressure, Steve clearly holds deep respect for Tiger’s work ethic and legacy. Their partnership marked one of the most dominant eras in golf history, and Steve was right in the thick of it, carrying the bag and watching it all unfold.

Think Tiger’s intensity is what made him the GOAT, or did it come at too high a cost?
