Daan’s The Way! Our ARTIST OF THE MONTH for February 2014 – DANNIC

We often think about ‘What If?’- ‘What if this had happened’ or ‘What if that had happened’. I ask myself the same question about this outstanding talent I’m writing on. ‘What if Daan “Dannic” Romers had just kept playing at weddings and bars?’ or ‘What if he hadn’t chatted with mentor and close friend Hardwell over some beer at a bar?’. If either of that had happened, we probably wouldn’t have ever met Dannic – Breda born and bred Progressive House/ Tech House DJ, arguably mashup king , and super talented remixer.

Daan Romers got on to the DJing scene a decade ago, playing cool edits and mixes at bars and weddings, and as he himself admits, got interested in house music only as recently as 2009. And as luck would have it, bumped into Robbert “Hardwell”, but didn’t know who he was initially! Their common love for similar music brought them closer, and Dannic is an integral part of the Revealed Family right now – gracing the Beatport Top 10 a number of times, starting his own radio show, and having his remixes and mashups acclaimed by the listeners and supported by the biggest DJ’s.

Dannic’s rise has been phenomenal for someone who got into the game as recently as 4 years ago, from rookie to chart-topper. His first release came only in 2012,’Doster’ on Hardwell’s imprint Revealed recordings, followed by ‘Tombo’ , both well-received tracks, but ‘Kontiki’, his collaboration with Hardwell was the rocket that landed straight at the Beatport Top 10, and what followed is what we’re witnessing today!

His 2012 Bootleg pack showed his immense talent at creating groovy mash-ups., His mashups like ‘Bong Into Darkness’ , ‘Miracle Years’, ‘Sometimes I Just Wanna Say My Name’ and ‘My Feelings For Hell Bells’ were widely acclaimed by stellar DJ’s like Tiesto, Avicii, Deniz Koyu, Chuckie, Yves V and Hardwell making his mashups a part of their sets.

Rest wasn’t a word in Dannic’s dictionary, as he went back to the studio to create ‘Flare’ on Revealed, which went on to become one of the most played progressive tracks of 2012 and early 2013, quickly following it up with another mind-blowing track, the tech-inspired ‘Clobber’, which was supported by every top DJ, and a collaboration with Jordy Dazz, ‘Fuego’. To end the year on a high, Dannic remixed the hugely successful Nicky Romero and Nervo collaboration ‘Like Home’, with Dannic’s melodious remix being a complete change in style from the hard-hitting original.

With a hugely successful debut year behind him, the expectations for 2013 were huge and Dannic was seen as one of the most promising new talents. Dannic’s first release of 2013 was a track with a deadly name, and a deadlier drop- ‘Viper’, followed by another Toolroom release, ‘Ignite’, and another big track, ‘Rocker’ which was played by everyone right from David Guetta to Above and Beyond. Apart from releases, Dannic had a packed summer and winter tour, playing with the likes of Tiesto, Benny Benassi and opening for the new world no.1 Hardwell on his ‘I Am Hardwell’ tour along with appearances at all the major festivals.

But the best was yet to come. Dannic made his first entry on the DJMag Top 100 at 74, and his massive collaboration with Sick Individuals, ‘Blueprint’ went straight to the top of the Beatport charts. And he wasn’t done yet, as a fresh Dannic remix was out, a cracking remix of the legendary Armin van Buuren’s, ‘Intense’. Not one to rest on his laurels, another huge Dannic remix followed. A remix of Mako’s ‘Beam’, which was all over podcasts and radio shows, and will definitely be heard in upcoming festival sets.

And after an amazing 2013, where he was on top of his game, Dannic previewed his roaring upcoming Revealed release ‘Lion’ right after New Year on Hardwell’s radio show. I was lucky to see him perform live in September 2013, and I must admit that he’s a classy live performer. Truly an amazing talent, here’s wishing Dannic all the success in the future.
