The anticipation for the Amsterdam Dance Event grows stronger with each passing year. The year 2018 was supposed to be the largest one Amsterdam Dance Event has ever had. Did you know there were 2500 artists performing from 17th until 21st October?

It must be hard to make a choice i.e. which events an individual should attend. In just 4 days, artists from across 73 countries performed at about 140 unique locations across Amsterdam. Amsterdam Dance Event also makes sure that all genres of electronic music are tended to during the event period. Let’s deep dive into what genres and artists created a highlight during Amsterdam Dance Event 2018.

EDM usually takes the larger chunk of music festivals. Amsterdam Dance Event, however, devoted 11% of their line-up, to techno artists which were about 600 in all. Apart from these, there were about 400 house artists as well. Perhaps the most interesting surprise was that there were also 31 artists who played Hardstyle from the overall line up.

This year 717 artists flew in from Netherlands and 304 from the UK. Adding to that 10% came from Germany and 7 % came from the US and Italy. When you deep dive into the sounds that the different countries prefer, you will notice that, techno is most popular amongst the German and UK artists. The Netherlands, on the other hand, is being taken over by House music. These were followed by EDM being most popular amongst the Dutch artists, while a portion of the German artists also chose Deep House rhythms. There were also artists from the UK who were 5 times more into Drum & Bass and trance when compared with Dutch and German artists.

Amsterdam Dance Event also provides large opportunities to upcoming artists being the largest electronic music conference. There was French upcoming talent like Simo Cell and Sante Sansone from Italy whose tunes attendees danced to this year. Adding to that, Tokyo Machine’s live set was a fresh surprise at the Monster Cat label showcase which kept us dancing on every beat. Following this, the collaboration between Alan Walker and K-Pop star Seungri put Asian EDM to the European realm of electronic music.

Apart from the new and upcoming, there were all our other favourites like Nicky Romero, Martin Garrix with 2 performances along with Noisia and R3hab. If we were to specify the most emotional highlight from Amsterdam Dance Event 2018 it would be the final Live show from the longest-leading #1 artists on the electronic scene which is Harwell. He left his fans in tears and fans across the globe longing for more.

One other highlight was the announcement of the ASOT 900 theme which happened mid-air with our very own Armin Van Burren. He redefines the meaning of scale of any event.

In all, Amsterdam Dance Event 2018 was thrilling beyond bounds.
