Emma Chamberlain Just Got Brutally Honest About Her YouTube Burnout

Emma Chamberlain is getting real about her complicated history with YouTube, the platform that launched her into internet stardom. The 23-year-old first burst onto the scene in 2016 with her signature style of raw, relatable vlogs. But despite all the fame, followers, and fashion deals that followed, Emma says it hasn’t always been sunshine and brand deals.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Emma admitted, “I had a very complicated relationship with YouTube for a long time. It’s how I started my career, but there was a time I thought, maybe I want to be more than a YouTuber. And that really messed with my head.”

It’s not surprising, Emma has gone way beyond vlogs. She’s been the face of Louis Vuitton since 2019 and signed with Cartier in 2022. She’s also grown a massive audience for her podcast series, where she shares her unfiltered thoughts on life, creativity, and mental health. Still, the YouTube bug hasn’t left her.

“I realized, wait, I love being a YouTuber. This was my dream as a kid. I did it. Why am I self-sabotaging?” she said. And now, she’s back to what she loves most, creating videos, editing them herself, and keeping things personal.

But fame doesn’t come without a price. In an earlier interview with The Face, Emma reflected, “You never get anything in life for free. With great success or fortune, there’s always going to be an equal that is pain.”

She also admits she never feels too comfortable with public approval, because the internet can flip on you overnight. “I never get comfortable being in the moment when I’m liked, because that can go away tomorrow,” she shared. “But people can love you again tomorrow, too.”

Even with a successful podcast and loyal YouTube fanbase, Emma Chamberlain isn’t trying to play expert. “I’m never trying to teach anyone anything. I’m more trying to learn with the audience,” she explained. “Sometimes I’ve lost myself and sounded preachy, but that wasn’t the goal.”

For Emma, it’s all about staying grounded and honest. Whether she’s in front of the camera or behind a mic, she’s not pretending to have it all figured out, and that’s exactly why people keep watching.
