In a wild twist that no one saw coming, Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed in the messy legal showdown between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni over their film It Ends with Us.
Yeah, that movie. Even though Swift had close to zero involvement with the film, aside from letting them use her track My Tears Ricochet, she’s somehow been pulled into the legal circus. A rep for the 35-year-old superstar made it crystal clear: this subpoena is just tabloid bait, not real evidence.
According to Swift’s team, she never stepped foot on set, wasn’t involved in casting, never saw an edit, didn’t make notes, and didn’t even watch the film until after its release. She was on her record-breaking Eras Tour during 2023 and 2024, literally performing across the globe. Her only connection? She licensed a single song, just one, out of 19 other artists who did the same. The spokesperson slammed the subpoena as an obvious attempt to ride Swift’s name for headlines rather than stick to the actual facts of the case.
Now, there’s chatter that Hugh Jackman might also get subpoenaed, though insiders say both he and Swift were never close to the drama and are being used to create a distraction. Another source told PEOPLE that the real focus should be on the disturbing allegations made by Lively and the countersuit launched by Baldoni.
Blake Lively, 37, sued her It Ends with Us co-star and director Baldoni back in December, accusing him of sexual harassment, unprofessional behavior, and launching a smear campaign when she pushed back. Baldoni, 41, fired back with a defamation and extortion lawsuit, claiming that Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their PR team tried to sabotage him.
What does this have to do with Swift? Well, Baldoni alleges that she and Reynolds were at a meeting at the couple’s penthouse and that Swift praised Lively’s script rewrite, supposedly pressuring him into going with her version. He even referenced a text where he told Lively her changes were “so much more fun and interesting,” but claimed the praise felt forced due to Swift and Reynolds being present. Lively apparently responded by calling herself Khaleesi and dubbing Swift and Reynolds her “dragons” and later her “Dance Moms level stage moms.”
It doesn’t stop there, Baldoni also accused Reynolds of mocking him in Deadpool & Wolverine, through a new “Nicepool” version of the character who throws out lines like “Where in God’s name is the intimacy coordinator?” and praises Ladypool (played by Lively) for “snapping back” post-baby. On the other side, Lively claims Baldoni fat-shamed her after childbirth while they were shooting the movie.
The court case, Lively v. Wayfarer Studios et al., is set to go to trial in March 2026 and will cover both lawsuits. As for Swift, her team’s not backing down and clearly wants her out of the tabloid drama entirely.
