Couple of months ago, The Wall Street Journal reported a prediction that said – Apple Music would have a larger volume of paying subscribers, than Spotify by the end of the summer season. Some of us who are the Spotify loyalists, did not take that prediction very seriously. But, recent news on Digital Music News suggests that, Apple Music has more paying subscribers from the U.S. than that on Spotify.

While both Apple Music and Spotify have a little over 20 million subscribers in the U.S., Apple Music beat Spotify with a little margin. The confidential source of Digital Music News has ranked the streaming giants with Apple Music on the top, in the U.S for on –demand music streaming services. The list also includes Spotify, Tidal and Sirius XM which is a satellite radio channel with 33 million subscribers.

If you are a loyalist of Apple Music, you will notice that various sources with data on these streaming giant suggests that, Apple is experiencing a rapid growth rate in the U.S. which we believe, will create a significant lead for Apple, against all it’s rivals. One interesting point to note is that the users who are on a trial version are not a part of this count. Hence, Apple is definitely seeing a positive growth.

How are all of these sources so sure about Apple seeing a rapid rise in its paying subscriber user base? To answer that, they are basing their analysis on the Wall Street Journal’s report that stated, Apple is growing by 5% every month in the U.S vs Spotify’s monthly subscriber growth being 2%. If the rate at which both these platforms remains the same, the gap in their total subscriber base will only widen.

To conform that Apple music has a better user experience and is a better choice for users, let’s look at how Drake’s new album, ‘Scorpion’ performed on both these platforms. In a nutshell, Apple Music saw 170 million streams of the Scorpion tracks within it’s first week in comparison to Spotify’s 130 million streams. This clearly shows, that users seem to have engaged more on Apple Music.

While, if you look at the global numbers, Spotify has 70 million paying subscribers, with a total subscriber base of 160 million; of which 90 million are free accounts. Apple Music however has 45 million paying users with about 10 million listeners on their trial versions. But, if you look at the streaming patterns on both these giants during the release of Drake’s album, it is evidently clear that there are more active users on Apple Music.

Tell us below, which streaming platform are you on, and why do you prefer it?
