Perhaps what is most interesting apart from the music festivals taking place in the European and North American markets, is the fact that these festivals are now growing around the globe with the Ultra Music festival adding 23 new events, adding up to 45 ultra-events around the world attracting 1 million attendees.
Through streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and the social platforms like Facebook and Instagram, it is easy for anyone and everyone to discover, curate and stream music that they want to listen to. These mediums have made it easy for listeners to explore new genres of music and listeners all over the globe are adopting to electronic dance music and will sure as hell know the name of at least one electronic dance music DJ.
While the US and Europe markets seem to have matured with the music festival scene, listeners all over the globe exploring EDM are now wanting to experience the music festival scene as it has a better vibe and provides a larger experience as opposed to just going club hopping.
Markets like Cuba, South America, Vietnam, Philippines and China are now seeing a rise in music festivals with China seeing an extraordinary expansion.
A few examples of this extraordinary expansion would be of Ultra Music festival rising to 150 events this years from 32 in 2016. Another one would be Storm in China, which has gone from 1 event with 24K attendees in 2013, to 8 events with 180K attendees last year.
While Ultra Worldwide is all set to make its presence felt in the Chinese market, it is also going to be held in Macau, Thailand, Bali and South Korea Japan. It is a no-brainer that EDM is being adopted all over the world, especially Asia. But, what remains to be seen is, how many regions does it sustain in?
