His late father was a drummer in a jazz band. He worked at two popular record stores before becoming a world renowned DJ. You guessed it right, our “Artist Of The Month” is Jeffery Sutorius aka Dash Berlin.
Dash Berlin is a Dutch trance project which was created in 2007 featuring Jeffery himself along with Eelke Kalberg and Sebaastian Molijn. Jeffery, a former drummer is the frontman of the group and Eelke and Sebastiaan work from behind the scenes.
All three members had been involved in the electronic music scene in Holland for over a decade, but their breakthrough track as Dash Berlin came only in 2007, ‘Till The Sky Falls Down’. It received tremendous support from many artists including Armin, who then signed Dash Berlin on to Armada. It also went top of the trance charts worldwide.
The next massive track ‘Waiting’ came in 2009, and featured Emma Hewitt’s vocals. It was nominated for and won several awards including an IDMA. This was also around the time when Dash Berlin undertook an expansion drive to increase their influence by forming their own label Aropa. Dash Berlin launched Aropa in style by releasing ‘Man On The Run’ a collaboration with some other Armada artists which went top of the dance charts worldwide. It also happened to be the first single from the debut Dash Berlin album, ‘The New Daylight’ released in late 2009. ASOT selected “Waiting” as the second best track of 2009, making it a blockbuster year for Dash Berlin.
The huge success in 2009 meant that Dash Berlin showed up for the very first time on the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 at No.15 – The highest ever trance entry.
In 2010 a remix album for ‘The New Daylight’ was released and Dash Berlin zoomed into the Top Ten of the DJ Mag poll at No.8.
In 2012 Dash Berlin received a nomination for best Trance track at the IDMAs for ‘Better Half Of Me’, and also released a new album ‘#musicislife’. Dash Berlin was also the second highest ranked DJ on the DJ Mag poll at No.7, only behind Armin van Buuren.
In 2013 Dash Berlin headlined Ultra Buenos Aires and Ultra Chile along with Carl Cox, Avicii and Armin van Buuren, and also received another IDMA nomination for Best Trance Track for ‘When You Were Around’. Jeffery also toured the world along with Armin van Buuren as part of his ASOT 600 tour. His single ‘Jar of Hearts’ was very successful as well.
In 2014, Dash Berlin for the first time released a track on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings called ‘Dragonfly’. Dash Berlin also released a new album ‘We Are One (Part One)’. You can read our review of it here.
