Earlier known as DJeff Afrozilla, the Lisbon producer releases new single under the moniker DJEFF. Zugu Zugu is an afro-house inspired track released by this star from Portugal. Out on Spinnin’ Deep, the track release is also coupled with the release of the official music video, and features Zakes Bantwini.

Exuding the native African music vibe right from the beginning, the track ascends pretty well along with the vocals and the upbeat tempo. The groovy music that’s consistent in the background keeps you hooked to the infectious feeling of the track. The latter half of the track gets even more rich and euphoric, leaving you feeling exhilarated. The video is a royal display of colorful nature of dressing, rooted in Africa and has a lot of dancers, whose steps are showcased consistently. You may definitely call the production of the video a creative expression of what the track originally has to offer- because it just blends that well!

Born in Lisbon with roots strongly set in Africa, DJEFF draws inspiration from the likes of Robin S, Reel 2 Reel, Daft Punk and Armand Van Helden. Deciding to switch to a new name, the release marks a new start for him. Having created his own label – Kazukuta Records – a home for his music and for new African talents, DJEFF is both a leader and an inspiration. The label became Angola’s first ever electronic imprint, with the producer’s ‘Soldier Ascension’ album soon following. Performing at the infamous Boiler Room, 2017 saw DJEFF release ‘Gratitude’, the 13-track album which featured widely acclaimed records such as ‘Devotion’, and ‘Future’.

He also bagged his dream performance at Berlin’s Watergate, Paris’ Rex Club and Benetton’s Fabrica in Italy this year- seems like a really lucky year for him. With these performances, and the release of ‘Zugu Zugu’ he further cements his place as the maker of a hot release towards the end of summer.

His influences from the likes of the legends mentioned above is quite evident with the production style and his ascent in the Portuguese dance scene along with acts like Violet and Photonz, is an obvious outcome of that infectious style of music-making!

2018 has looked strong for him and the new alias suggests a big shift in production style as well. What do you think of this track and the name change? Let us know below.
