T.H.E SideBeats: 10 Deadmau5 beefs you cannot afford to miss!

2

Deadmau5 may wear a giant mouse head when he’s performing in front of thousands but he is certainly no mouse when it comes to expressing his often fervent opinions. This behavior of his has resulted in Joel having massive beefs with high-flying pop stars, fellow DJs and producers! We take a look at the top 10 beefs involving Deadmau5. Let us know what you think!

1) Deadmau5 Vs Madonna

Deadmau5 attacked Madonna after she gave a shout out to the drug ecstasy at her most recent performance.
Deadmau5 was fuming after the 53-year-old singer asked the crowd how many of them had ‘met molly’ as she introduced Avicii at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The latter is the moniker given to the chemically pure and more potent form of the drug, which is popular among many hipster dance music fans.

2) Deadmau5 Vs Tricia Evans

Electronic dance music superstar Deadmau5 was not amused when Playboy model Tricia Evans attempted an unarguably, unamusing, deeply crass joke on Twitter related to the Colorado massacre.

3) Deadmau5 Vs Paris Hilton

The heiress has been following pop-house DJ Afrojack for quite some time now, popping up on his Afrojet and limply dancing in his DJ booth at events from Vegas to Miami to New York. But now — and this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise — she’s doing some fake DJ’ing of her own. After a video was posted of Hilton mixing some songs waving her hands in the air and playing with a flanger (an effect that warps the sound of a track when a knob is turned), Deadmau5 took to Twitter with typical candor:

4) Deadmau5 Vs Tiesto

Closing the day 2 of the festival, Deadmau5 was a special guest at Ultra trolled Martin Garrix by dropping the McMaNGOS Funnymals version of popular track ‘Animals’.

Right after this, the mau5 played a mash-up of ‘Ghost N Stuff’ and one of Avicii’s signature tracks, ‘Levels’. Whether or not this was also an insult to his fellow DJ, is not clear. However what happened next was a back and forth on Twitter with popular artist DJ Tiesto. Here is the exchange.

5) Deadmau5 Vs Avicii’s manager, Ash Pournouri

This time, he took on Ash Pournouri, the manager for EDM artist Avicii. In January, producer Steve Angello tweeted some personal thoughts about his career.

Pournouri couldn’t help but respond, four months later.

His response soon drew condemnation from Deadmau5, setting off a back and forth between the two.

6) Deadmau5 Vs DJ Mag Top 100

It wouldn’t be a true DJ Mag Top 100 reveal without at least one or two quotes from your trusty troll, the one and only deadmau5. Last year, Joel Zimmerman came in at an impressive 12th, right above Skrillex. Did deadmau5 care that he fell back a few ranks? Of course not. There’s no better way to say this but the man gives seriously zero f*cks about what people think of him. We’ll let these few tweets do the rest of the talking.

7) Deadmau5 Vs Armin van Buuren

Deadmau5 just can’t seem to resist a fight. This time, however, it appears that the Mau5 has met his match. He took a shot at superstar DJ Armin van Buuren’s “A State of Trance” radio show.

8) Deadmau5 Vs Afrojack

The whole point of this EDMBiz conference is to talk about everything EDM, and to assist, a panel of artists, which included: Afrojack, Dash Berlin, Dirty South, Borgore and more were brought on to provide working professional insight. Afrojack commented on one of the main topics of discussion that really seemed to strike a nerve with Joel which was when this panel was asked, “is there a dance music bubble”? Which in turn, Afrojack replied back, “it’s simple, if you make good music, you succeed, if you don’t, you won’t” and the other artists agreed.

This is what Joel had to say in retrospect to Afrojack’s statement above.

Joel’s response then led to a twitter out lash from Afrojack:

9) Deadmau5 Vs Skrillex & David Guetta

Known for being outspoken and very candid in his interviews, Deadmau5 didn’t hold anything back in Rolling Stone’s Summer Special issue. When asked about his fellow EDM colleagues David Guetta and Skrillex, Deadmau5 had some not so nice things to say.

“David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks – like, ‘Here’s one with Akon, check it out!’” he says. “Even Skrillex [a friend of Deadmau5’s] isn’t doing anything too technical. He has a laptop and a MIDI recorder, and he’s just playing his shit … People are, thank God, smartening up about who does what – but there’s still button-pushers getting paid half a million. And not to say I’m not a button-pusher. I’m just pushing a lot more buttons.”

10) Deadmau5 Vs Porter Robinson
